Islands, volcanoes and instrumental exile stories.

From Overseas is an ambient project by musician/composer Kévin Séry. Using his guitar as his tool of expression, along with looping techniques, he creates a multiplicity of layers, intense drones and mesmerizing soundscapes both in the studio and in live performances.

Originally from the tiny French Overseas Department and Region, Reunion Island, he routinely bounces between his home island, a small port town on the east coast of the US and continental Europe picking up fresh ideas and inspiration along the way.

In 2019 and 2020, he was recognized as Best Experimental Act by Veer Magazine for his debut EP, Volcan and debut album, Home.

From Overseas has collaborated with artists such as awakened souls, Tyresta, zakè, 36, Benoît Pioulard, Slow Dancing Society, marine eyes, Chihei Hatakeyama, Hakobune, City of Dawn and more.

Kévin Séry is also Label Manager at Past Inside The Present and an active member of Keep The Orange Sun and Color of Time.

"If you have yet to experience his live show full on immersed in the multimedia onslaught he brings to a stage, you've missed out. This music is church. The good kind of church. You don't listen to it so much as live through it. It sneaks in through your pores, prances around the cathedral of your mind, and leaves you marked"

awakened souls & From Overseas - Keep The Orange Sun

LP | Digital available on Past Inside the Present

After hearing each other’s individual music, a deeper conversation started about shared musical influences and inspiration leading to the creation of this album.

Keep The Orange Sun guides the listener on a thoughtfully curated path. Starting with the certainty of life’s changes (Certainty of Tides) to arising self-doubt (Release/Adapt) and celebrating immersion in the present moment as the gateway to deeper connection with nature and one’s life (Keep The Orange Sun).

The instrumentation present in each track channels elements of electronic, shoegaze & ambient with each artist’s distinct musical fingerprint highlighted.

HOME

From Overseas - HOME

LP | Digital available on Past Inside the Present

Beautifully mastered by Stephan Mathieu (12k, Shelter Press, Mexican Summer…), From Overseas released his first full length album “Home” on Indiana based label, Past Inside the Present.

“Home" is a journey through beautiful soundscapes where dark and light intertwine, where ambient tones give way to post-rock guitar craft, then segway to melodic drone, noise and back again. These soothingly powerful songs evoke emotions on a full spectrum, dreamy unplanned travels and inspire us to question the nature of the place that each of us calls home.

Speaking of home, the fourth track, Maloya Tales, is a personal tribute to Séry's homeland 'Reunion Island' and gives you another glimpse of the mystical rhythms of traditional Reunionese Maloya music.

Released March 25, 2020

VOLCAN

a1767454689_10.jpg

From Overseas - Volcan

Cassette | Digital available on From Overseas

Volcan, the first EP by From Overseas is an exercise in time-slowing and space distorting music.

A soulful experience where, one by one, the multiple layers of sound raise you safely to contemplate the origins of the world from up above. It is a synesthetic trance, where nature has the ultimate powers of destruction and infinite creation as well. Volcan is an invitation to embrace both dynamics. The rumbling tremors expressed by Sery's intense ambient strums, and the peaceful floating sensations combine in a poetic arpeggio to bring your imagination to picture the sight of new lands forming in the ocean.

The melodic and soaring journey is also Sery's first tribute to Reunion Island. The fourth track, Volcan, gives you a glimpse of the hauntingly beautiful and mystical rhythms of traditional Reunionese Maloya music.

Released February 28, 2018
